Trendy Women on the Buy That Transformed their Style
Sometimes it happens: you buy something that takes your style in a whole new direction. We call these pivotal pieces stylechangers. We asked some of STYLEBY’s friends tell us about their game changing garments.

STYLE CHANGER: Fabulous shoes
“A great pair of shoes is definitely a game changer for me. My style is so simple. I always go for that luxe cashmere knit, a pair of well-fitted jeans, a leather jacket, silk shirt or plain t-shirt, which can actually be a tad boring. Therefore, I always make sure to make it more interesting with fab shoes like these from Gianvito Rossi. They add that extra something, which makes all the difference and has transformed my style. My current favourites, besides these mules, are a pair of kitten heels from Céline and Valentino’s classic rock stud kitten heels. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve received compliments on these. It’s definitely (a lot of) money well spent.”

STYLE CHANGER: Denim skirt
“I have always loved denim and skirts, but it wasn’t actually until last summer that I bought my first denim skirt. I remember how I left the store feeling like I made a great investment and I knew I would use it a lot. I was right. That denim skirt and I have lived happily together since. I like to wear a lot of heels, shirts, and blazers so I love how this denim skirt adds a more casual and relaxed feel to my style. It is definitely one of my favourite pieces for the summer since it works with so much in my wardrobe. I match it with a navy blazer and black suede pumps for work or dinners out, and wear it with a simple white t-shirt and leather sandals for a day at home or out strolling in the city.”

STYLE CHANGER: Double breasted suit
“I never thought about wearing a suit before I bought my first one: a dark navy, double breasted suit from Acne Studios. I considered suits too stiff for me, I wore jeans all the time. Some years have passed and I still enjoy its versatility, having learnt to create many different looks around the blazer. I can coordinate it with pants and flats for the perfect men's look. I pair it with a pleated mini skirt and white shirt for the Japanese college girl look. And I’ll throw on jeans, a statement jewel and high heeled sandals for a night out. Sometimes I wear it on my shoulders like a cape over a dress and I roll up the sleeves when I wear it with wide pants. In my wardrobe today I have the suit jacket in several fabrics from By Malene Birger, Tiger of Sweden and Stella McCartney. My original Acne blazer is still there to remind me to try to invest in something unexpected from time to time.”

STYLE CHANGER: Levi’s 501 logo t-shirt
“I remember it like it was yesterday. I was thirteen and finally got my first pair of stonewashed Levi’s 502 jeans along with a Levi’s t-shirt with a big 501 logo on it. It was my very first cool outfit. I had been dreaming of these jeans for months and my mom wouldn’t let me have them until my birthday. I felt unbelievably cool, almost untouchable, wearing them. All my friends at the time were older than me, and I’ll never forget meeting my stylish friends outside the local mall where we used to hang out, wearing my fresh out of the box Levi’s outfit. I still have the t-shirt. I would never wear a dull outfit again after experiencing the magic of wearing a trendy outfit, haha!”
