Leila Yavari, Fashion Director at the luxury site Stylebop, loves spending time exploring some of the lesser-known areas and hidden eco-luxe retreats across Thailand. For her, travelling is an experience with a much-needed focus on mind, body and spirit. Here are Leila’s three favorite places to visit in Thailand, that you’ve probably never heard of before.
The secluded place – Koh Kood
My favourite discovery in Thailand was the Soneva Kiri Resort and Six Senses spa on the secluded island of Koh Kood, which can only be reached by private plane or chartered speedboat. Spend your days luxuriating by private infinity pools or exploring the surrounding countryside. Spend a day with one of the local families, for instance, and learn about Thai customs such as the local cuisine and daily meditation.
Meditation – Amanpuri in Phuket
Amanpuri in Phuket is a beautiful destination for meditation, as is the idyllic Aman retreat, a lush jungle island rich with cultural history, including 30 ancient Buddhist temples. Following this holistic route, the Dhara Dhevi resort in Chiang Mai, in the North of Thailand, offers an inspiring wellness program that includes yoga and Ayurvedic treatments from the famous healer Roger Moore.
Temple of Emerald Buddha – Bangkok
Visiting the temples located in the historic centre of Bangkok was also a breathtaking experience, the most memorable being the Temple of Emerald Buddha which includes a shrine of the Buddha image meticulously carved from a single block of Jade.
